As part of our outreach activities, IALT staff provides free educational seminars as a resource to public school teachers of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. These seminars are meant to supplement existing science and Alaska History curriculum, drawing local examples from the lands conserved by the land trust. The goal of these seminars is to share the work of the land trust with young stewards of Interior lands.
To schedule a seminar in your classroom, please contact us at:
ialt.outreach@gmail.com
Teachers can choose from the following lesson plans:
- The Beginnings of Fairbanks: Chena, AK and the Tanana Valley Railroad
- A Closer Look at Wetlands in Interior Alaska
- The Work of a Land Trust: Zoning and Land Use in Fairbanks, AK (recommended for older students)
It is also possible to schedule a field trip with IALT, although teachers are responsible for arranging for transportation. An IALT field trip will take students to field sites on land which has been conserved or to local historical sites. We are willing to tailor our field trips to fit in with exists programs and curriculum. Please contact us for further details.
